Gold has always provoked a powerful response in humans.
Since the earliest of civilisations, gold and metals have been used to embellish articles of dress. Gold, in particular, has been an indicator of wealth, power, leadership and social status in many societies. The reflective nature of metal has often also been associated with rituals relating to the sun and used widely.
Gail will be using items from the Embroiderers' Guild Historic Collection plus from her personal Collection to show clothing adorned with gold and metal from across the world. There will also be discussions on how these items were made, their history and how they were used.
This talk is part of the Australian Heritage Festival.
