Duke of George presents Came So Far for Beauty, A Leonard Cohen Celebration featuring Nick Turner, Phoebe Deklerk and The Secret Chords Leonard Cohen would have been 88 this September, and this show is a special birthday tribute. The Secret Chords are proud to bring you this respectful heartfelt homage to the genius, wisdom, humour and humility of one of the greatest poet singer songwriters. No one who saw Leonard at Sandalford winery when he restarted touring in 2009 (at the age of 74!) will ever forget it. It was sublime. Nick Turner saw him then and indeed all three times he returned to Perth. And years before that, he kept himself alive busking his way round Europe and across America playing Leonard's songs, so he's a very seasoned performer of Leonard's extensive repertoire! The Secret Chords seek to capture the wonderfully rich and joyful atmosphere of those last gigs, but also the feeling so many of us got when we listened to a darker, more spartan Leonard in our bedrooms in our early teens. And indeed, thanks to Phoebe Deklerk, the incredible soaring reinterpretations of Leonard's songs by Jennifer Warnes and KD Lang. Nick and Phoebe are joined by the A List of Fremantle folk musicians, including Adam Gare, to deliver a show that will transport you back to your most treasured Leonard moments. For this special birthday gig we will also be giving away a door prize for one lucky person! Doors 6pm, Band at 7.30pm (12+ years require a ticket plus accompanied by an adult) See new events on our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxqKJcD5y33GNFEcVDXxjsw/video
