Yo Ho Ho, the pirates are coming to town! A runaway success across Australia, The Pirates of Penzance is one of the most popular operettas ever written that both old salts and scallywags will equally enjoy. The story of a roguish pirate king and his adventurous young charge who explore the coastline in search of treasure and romance comes sailing into Adelaide with all the laughs, unforgettable melodies and tongue-twisting songs. Flying the G&S flag, State Opera Artistic Director Stuart Maunder has assembled a star-studded cast led by Ben Mingay 'swashing his buckle' as the Pirate King. He's joined in this epic adventure by a stellar cast: John Longmuir, Desiree Frahn, Douglas McNicol as Major General Stanley and Antoinette Halloran as Ruth, the piratical maid of all work. Anthony Hunt leads the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra in one of Sullivan's most boisterous, tuneful scores.
